Check Out My Forbes Cover Story

My day job doesn't often cross paths with this blog, but when it does, the results tend to be awesome. I wrote the cover story for the latest edition of Forbes Magazine. It's about new Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan. Hopefully the lack of Eagles content will be outweighed by NFL insight and one tremendous mustache. But I'll let you decide.

Notes on Cut Down Day

The Eagles need to get down to a 53-man roster by 9pm tonight. I already published my final roster prediction yesterday. However, here are somethings to watch for:

  • Apparently Joselio Hanson was already cut. So much for one of my predictions. Really should have stuck with my gut on that one.
  • OJ Atogwe's injury throws a wrench into an already broken safety position. If his hamstring problem is anything more than day-to-day, I expect the team to cut him and find someone else off the street. After flirting with the waiver wire all preseason, Jaiquawn Jarrett is definitely going to survive.
  • Other than safety, the interior offensive line is the place most likely to see a free agent pickup. I chose Steve Vallos over Dallas Reynolds basically at random. Good possibility that neither makes the squad.
  • I really don't understand the fascination with Trent Edwards. I wasn't able to watch the game last night, but is anyone surprised that a quarterback with 33 regular season starts under his belt would have no problem playing against third and fourth string players? Replacement-level veterans like that are always available off the street.
  • Presumably the trade phones will be ringing all day about Darryl Tapp. I really don't see him sticking around, but if the Eagles don't get an offer they like in time, maybe he stays for a day or two past the deadline.

Read Between the Lines

In the midst of yet another edition of Linebacker Musical Chairs, Juan Castillo sounded off on how DeMeco Ryans fits into the group, per Les Bowen:

I think what DeMeco Ryans has added is, Meco has that experience ... Now, all of a sudden, the kids see how they're supposed to watch tape, how they're supposed to act on the field. Meco's a no-nonsense type guy, and a guy who's been in the league and done it ... You take that, mixed with athletic kids, athletic guys, now you have a good group," Castillo said Monday.

Don't get me wrong, Ryans is still a huge upgrade over the clowns in 2011. But there's a reason Castillo calls him "no-nonsense" and the rest of the linebackers "athletic." Just saying.

Vick Succumbs to Blogger's Pressure

After suffering my withering takedown last week, Michael Vick finally admitted he was wrong. Tim McManus has the details:

After suffering bruised ribs against the Patriots, Vick says that he will continue to wear the Kevlar padding from Unequal Technologies. He’s just getting more of it.

“It’s going to be a little thicker. I got fitted the other day and I look forward to wearing those,” said Vick. The quarterback anticipates having the new gear by the opener...

“I’m going to continue to go with Unequal,” said Vick on Monday. “Just the new Kevlar padding.”

But why wasn't he already wearing the newest padding? Keep the dial on McNabb or Kolb for all of your latest PaddingGate updates.
